Twelve years in KAUST: My journey from student to entrepreneur

When Founding Class alumnus Luca Passone arrived in 2009 from Italy, he never imagined that, 12 years later, he'd still call KAUST home.

One of our many alumni who has gone on to achieve incredible success founding a start-up, Luca recently reflected on all that's possible because of KAUST in Twelve Years at KAUST: My Journey from Student to Entrepreneur.

Luca graduated in 2018 with a PhD in Earth Science and Engineering, with research on ground motion simulation for seismic hazard, and in 2011 with a MS '11 in High-Performance Computing. While a student, he turned his drone hobby and love of photography into FalconViz, a start-up which focuses on digitizing physical assets. A day in the life of Luca, the Chief Technology Officer and General Manager FalconViz., is varied. However, he says the most exciting part of his work is spent doing what he loves most: solving technological challenges in geospatialdata.
