KAUST Alumni China Chapter was one of the organizers of the 2nd International Symposium on Advanced Functional Materials. The event was held in Hangzhou, China from July 2 to July 4, 2023. The ISAFM was attended by 21 alumni including KAUST professors Kuowei Huang, Zhiping Lai and Yu Han.

"The ISAFM aims to promote full exchange and sharing of cutting-edge developments in related fields among domestic and foreign experts and scholars, to promote the technological research and development and application of advanced materials, to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of relevant industries, to develop a more friendly and comprehensive international relationship, to establish a stable mechanism for scientific and humanistic exchanges, and to promote the development of a "community of shared future for mankind"".
